CoinCircle news, according to ABC News, reports that Trump’s speech scriptwriter, Gabriel Perez, profited more than $100,000 on the prediction market Kalshi by using advance knowledge of the president’s speech. Investigators from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have linked Perez to bets on the State of the Union address and more than a dozen other presidential speeches.

Presidential speech teleprompter writers can also earn $100,000 by profiting from information asymmetry—showing just how deep the waters are in political prediction markets. But then again, is this kind of insider trading considered legal in prediction markets? Traditional finance certainly wouldn’t allow it, but platforms like Kalshi are new and their rules aren’t complete yet, so they’ll probably need to plug the loopholes.

Internal news really is valuable—this round of moves is too wild.

Using advance access to the speech script to place bets—doesn’t that sound like typical insider trading? Good job, CFTC. Market fairness needs to be upheld.
