July 16, according to U.S. reports from July 15, an internal assessment from the U.S. Department of Defense indicates that America’s actual spending on military actions against Iran could be as high as $100 billion—far exceeding the roughly $30 billion previously disclosed by the U.S. government. It is understood that the reason there is such a huge gap between the two figures is that the earlier official estimates did not include undisclosed combat expenses, losses of advanced fighter jets, and the severe damage costs the United States incurred at military facilities in the Middle East.

U.S. Senator Angus King said that Americans are very disappointed that they cannot find out the actual cost of the war—“not to mention the additional costs the conflict brings to the public, such as higher gas prices.”
