ME News, April 26 (UTC+8): The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against U.S. military Special Forces soldier Gannon Ken Van Dyke, alleging that he used confidential information he had access to to place bets on the prediction market platform Polymarket regarding the U.S. taking action against Venezuela, illegally profiting more than $400k. After learning of the incident, Trump said it reminded him of baseball legend Pete Rose betting on his own team to win, and he downplayed it, saying: “It’s like Rose betting his own team to win. If he bets and loses, that would be bad, but if he bets and wins, I’ll investigate it.” Because of Trump’s support for Rose, some of Trump’s allies believe Van Dyke should be pardoned. Trump previously commented that the global situation is like a “casino,” suggesting that some market trades rely on information asymmetry or even insider information, and he emphasized that he does not support prediction platforms.
