The date of the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final
🏴 England - 🇦🇷 Argentina Date: July 15, 2026, Wednesday (Today) Time: 22:00 (TRT) / 15:00 (Local time) Stadium: Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, Georgia - USA)
In the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final, Argentina and England face off in one of the biggest matches of the tournament for a spot in the final. The reigning World Cup champion Argentina, despite being more challenged than expected against Switzerland, advanced in extra time to reach the final four. England, meanwhile, after defeating Norway 2-1 in the quarter-finals, moved one step closer to its goal of winning the World Cup for the second time since 1966. In this match preview, we examine Argentina’s Messi-centered attacking plan, England’s game led by Kane-Bellingham, and possible score scenarios.
Argentina is again putting its status as the defending champion on the pitch in the 2026 World Cup. Lionel Scaloni’s squad has been one of the most notable teams throughout the tournament in terms of possession, attacking productivity, and high-pressure in the final third. Even though their game was sometimes locked up against Switzerland, Argentina once again showed its big-match reflex by advancing in extra time.
The biggest card for the Albiceleste is still Lionel Messi. Messi, who has scored 8 goals so far in the tournament, continued to contribute to the team even though the Switzerland match was goalless, making an assist from a corner on the opening goal scored by Mac Allister. Despite his advancing age, he remains at the center of Argentina’s attack with both goal threat and game intelligence.
Argentina’s attacking power isn’t limited to Messi alone. Julian Alvarez’s pressing in the forward area, Lautaro Martinez’s finishing inside the penalty box, and the passing quality in the center from the Mac Allister-Enzo Fernandez duo make Scaloni’s team versatile. Especially in cramped games, it’s a major advantage for Argentina that Messi, Alvarez, and Lautaro take individual responsibility.
England, under Thomas Tuchel, reached the semi-finals despite occasionally looking unstable at times during the tournament, thanks to high individual quality and mental resilience. The English, who defeated Norway 2-1 in the quarter-finals, managed to keep a threat like Haaland under control and strengthened their belief in winning the trophy.
England’s most important trait is that they don’t break easily when they fall behind or are under pressure. Jude Bellingham is at the center of this structure. The star playing for Real Madrid has become England’s most decisive figure by taking responsibility in critical moments throughout the tournament. His runs into the penalty area will be one of the main threats England’s defense will need to account for.
Harry Kane is also maintaining his claim in the race for the Golden Boot. With 6 goals in the tournament, Kane is at the center of England’s attack both with his finishing role and with his link-up play. Kane’s ability to draw defenders could open up more space for players like Bellingham and Saka.
England’s biggest advantage, however, is individual quality and physical resilience. Kane’s link-up play, Bellingham’s runs into the penalty area, and Saka’s one-on-one threat on the right wing could cause serious problems for Argentina’s defense.
England to Win: %36.9
Draw: %28.6
Argentina to Win: %34.5
England will win the match in extra time. 2-1
