Once you get addicted to trading after chasing profits, it’s really hard to return to a normal life

A friend of mine had a situation like this. At first, he only used 1,500U to trade contracts. In just two short days, he turned it into 40,000U. His mindset completely flew out the window. He looked down on his salary from his day job, thought running a business was too tiring, and his eyes were only on the up-and-down K-line chart—convinced that this was the only path to turn things around.
After the market reversed, his trading completely got out of control. When he was in profit, he always complained the position size was too small. When he was losing, he held on to it to the point of death and refused to exit. After a small drawdown, he added more to bet on a rebound. He was full of hope that another trade would let him break even in one shot.
In the end, he lost 40,000U down to just a few hundred U. Financial loss was bad, but what was hardest to quit was the trading compulsion: eating while staring at the chart, repeatedly checking the market before sleep, waking up in the middle of the night and opening the app to watch price movements. He tells others to stay away from contracts, yet he can’t stop himself from placing trades frequently.
The most harmful part of high leverage is that it first gives you a taste of quick profits. The stimulation from big daily gains will completely wear down your patience, and you’ll no longer be able to settle down to compound steadily and safely.
But the market is designed to exploit people like this: the more desperate you are to get back to even, the heavier you go into positions; the more afraid you are of missing out, the more you chase pumps; and since you can’t accept losses, you keep refusing to cut them. In the end, what crushes people isn’t the market—it’s the gambling addiction fueled by fast money.
If you want to survive in the crypto space for the long term, don’t first worry about whether prices will go up or down. First interrogate yourself: if you can’t read the market, can you stay completely out of trades? If you’re losing, can you stop-loss decisively? If you’re profitable, will you take profits on time? When your mindset gets unbalanced, can you directly close the app.
If you already feel yourself gradually getting “over the top” and losing control, you must adjust your pace in time—don’t wait until both your funds and your everyday life collapse, then regret it.
