When liquidity is thin or weak, big players will first wipe out shorts, then wipe out longs. The real script is that big players open long positions on the futures/derivatives contract first, then open longs at lower levels using low leverage, and then the spot market is used to pump it with small orders. Because the order book is relatively sparse, you don’t need too much capital to push the price up. After a modest rise, they open short positions, and then the spot market starts dumping. This is not a trend reversal.
