Analysis: Tech stocks are seeing increased volatility, and the number of large swings within the year for semiconductor and software ETFs has hit a record high.

ME News message, on July 15 (UTC+8), The Kobeissi Letter posted on X that the technology sector has been undergoing exceptionally volatile swings in recent weeks. Semiconductor ETF SMH and software ETF IGV have already had 34 trading days within the year where the single-day percentage change has reached or exceeded 4%, which is 278% higher than the 9 times recorded for all of 2024 beforehand, and exceeds the total number of occurrences over the past seven complete years. Among them, SMH has already seen 3 days in July with single-day declines of more than 4%; 3x long semiconductor ETF SOXL has had 18 trading days since June where the single-day percentage change has reached or exceeded 10%.
