There’s no battle strategy, no tactic, no metric that can cover everything.
The environment changes, and the conditions change. Methods that used to have high win rates may completely fail when you switch to another scenario. So don’t keep expecting to find a “secret manual” that’s always effective.
But there’s one thing that’s more reliable than finding a manual—setting a set of action rules for yourself, with clear bottom lines and boundaries.
These rules don’t need to be complicated. For example: how much you can take in per day before you stop, at what loss level you must halt, and what signals allow you to act. It’s like a coach that can’t speak, forcing you to hit the brakes when you’re on a roll, and to stay steady when you’re afraid.
Once people act based on instinct, it’s easy to get led astray by whatever emotions are in the moment. When you’re winning, you want more; when you’re losing, you want to make it back in one shot. And when you’re hesitating, you’re prone to blindly follow. Instinct is fluid, but rules are cold, clear, and unyielding. It’s exactly that coldness that protects you from falling into an emotional trap.
In the end, the feedback reality gives you is always more honest than self-comfort. No matter how much you trust yourself, no matter how unwilling you are to admit defeat—once the results are laid in front of you, they will mercilessly puncture every illusion. The decision you think is brilliant, reality will tell you whether it’s right or wrong. The countless excuses you make for yourself—reality won’t listen to a single word.
So instead of spending effort to guess, to gamble, and to wrestle with your emotions, it’s better to build a straightforward rule set, then execute it like a machine. If you’re wrong, admit it. If you’re right, hold to it. Don’t do anything that goes beyond the boundary.
Admitting you can’t control your emotions is when you truly start controlling yourself. The outside world will always be uncertain, but what you can be certain of is this: keeping your rules will take you farther than relying on intuition. Because rules don’t help you prettify reality—they help you face reality honestly.
