The artificial intelligence investment boom continues to accelerate as Anthropic's secondary market valuation has reportedly climbed to approximately $1.2 trillion on platforms such as Caplight. That represents an extraordinary 550% increase year over year, placing its implied valuation above OpenAI's current secondary market valuation of roughly $908 billion.

What makes this milestone even more remarkable is that the surge is being driven by the secondary market, where existing shareholders trade private company shares. According to Caplight's CEO, Anthropic has become the most sought-after private company ever seen in the venture secondary market, highlighting the exceptional level of investor demand.

Despite the eye-catching valuation, actually acquiring Anthropic shares remains extremely difficult. Existing shareholders appear reluctant to sell, creating a severe supply shortage. Reports suggest that investor demand has become so intense that some buyers have even expressed a willingness to sell personal assets, including their homes, in an effort to secure a stake in the company.

The growing enthusiasm follows a series of major corporate milestones. Anthropic completed a Series H funding round valued at approximately $96.5 billion in May and subsequently filed a confidential IPO prospectus in June, fueling further speculation about its long-term growth potential and future public listing.

The latest valuation reflects more than investor optimism. It underscores how the AI sector has become one of the most competitive areas for private capital, where scarcity, rapid technological progress, and expectations for future commercialization continue to push valuations higher. Whether these prices ultimately prove sustainable will depend on execution, revenue growth, and the broader evolution of the global AI industry, but for now, investor appetite for leading AI companies remains exceptionally strong.
