It’s not just two powerhouse teams but it is two fundamentally different styles clashing.

We have France who has been formidable in attack, who are always creating chances and always have that winning mentality when it comes to knockout stages. They look unstoppable, and if they have space to run into on the counter attack then no defence can contain them. Then we have Spain who are the kings of possession and controlling the game at their own pace. They can easily dominate a game by passing and keeping their opponents on the back foot.

If they control the tempo, the French may be forced into defence a lot more.

However, the games in these types of tournaments usually don’t follow patterns and I think this game will be closer than most people imagine. It really just comes down to who wants it more and who can keep a cool head under the highest pressure. A mistake, a set piece, individual brilliance – that’s usually what separates the two in these situations.

I have France nicking it by the odd goal, 2-1. I think they have that edge in terms of attacking quality if the game is to open up in the second half but there’s definitely the potential to see this go into extra time.
