ME News message, July 12 (UTC+8). Iran’s military spokesperson Akbarinia said on Sunday that, under the Islamabad understanding memorandum, responsibility for managing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran. He said the United States is trying to impose an unauthorized route in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, in violation of its commitments under the Islamabad understanding memorandum. He pointed out that Washington has a long record of failing to honor international commitments, and that the same issue exists in the understanding currently reached between the U.S. and Iran. Akbarinia added that Iran is taking a peaceful and cooperative approach by working with Oman to develop joint navigation arrangements for strategic waterways. He said U.S. interference undermines regional security and urged Washington to comply with the memorandum, respect regional stability, and take into account the interests of regional countries. Akbarinia also warned that every time the United States attacks Iranian islands, coastal areas, or facilities, it receives a firm response, and that the U.S. action on Saturday evening was immediately met with retaliation. He further said that Iran’s armed forces continued to strengthen readiness before and after the ceasefire, using the ceasefire period to enhance military capabilities while continuously updating operational plans to respond to various situations. He concluded by warning the United States to stop its destabilizing intervention in the region. (Jin10) (Source: ODAILY)
