#美伊战争阴云再起 Iran Announces Closure of the Strait of Hormuz
According to Xinhua News Agency citing Iranian media on the 12th, the Navy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that a vessel attempting to navigate an unauthorized route along the Strait of Hormuz was warned by gunfire and intercepted.
In view of this incident, the Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice and until the United States stops interfering in this region.
Also, according to CCTV News, on the 11th local time, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian Alarqi led a delegation to visit Muscat, the capital of Oman, and held talks with Oman’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bader. Officials from Oman and Iran discussed a “mechanism for safe passage of ships,” and emphasized Oman’s position of “preventing escalation of regional tensions through diplomacy.”
The report said that, according to a source familiar with the negotiations, Oman has drafted a plan to manage vessel passage through the Strait of Hormuz via two separate navigational channels managed independently. Under this agreement, which has not yet been finalized, both channels will remain open.
Among them, the southern channel that passes through Oman’s territorial waters will implement free navigation under pre-war conditions. Ships transiting via the northern channel through Iran’s territorial waters will need to obtain Iran’s approval in advance, but no passage fees will be charged under the agreement.
In addition, a diplomatic source with knowledge of the matter said that Qatar officials also participated in the related consultations held in Muscat that day. Meanwhile, regional sources disclosed that the parties attending were discussing issuing a statement that may involve fully opening the Strait of Hormuz’s “central channel” located in international waters to ensure comprehensive, free passage for vessels.
The above sources said that the information has not yet been confirmed at the official level by Oman, Iran, and Qatar.
