AIMPACT message, April 25 (UTC+8): Google announced that it plans to invest up to $40 billion in the AI company Anthropic. The first tranche of $10 billion will be injected based on its current valuation of $380 billion, while the remaining $30 billion is tied to specific performance targets. Since 2023, Google has invested more than $3 billion in Anthropic, and it currently holds about 14% of the company. Earlier this month, Anthropic locked in 5 GW of computing capacity through agreements with Google and Broadcom. Just a few days ago, Amazon also pledged to invest an additional $25 billion in Anthropic, meaning that within just a few weeks, up to $65 billion could flow into the companies behind the Claude AI model. Anthropic’s current annual revenue has already exceeded $30 billion, and it is expected to go public in the coming months.
