AIMPACT message: On April 25 (UTC+8), OpenAI CEO Sam Altman apologized to the Tumbleridge community in Canada for failing to report to the police a banned account related to Jesse Van Rootselaar. According to the police, Jesse Van Rootselaar killed 8 people at a school this February, and then died by suicide. OpenAI previously said that it had banned Van Rootselaar’s account last year for policy violations, but the issue did not meet the company’s internal standards for reporting to law enforcement. Sam Altman said he has spoken about this tragedy with the mayor of Tumbleridge and the premier of British Columbia, and described the local community’s pain as “inconceivable.” (Source: BlockBeats)
