AIMPACT message, April 25 (UTC+8): Google announced it will invest up to $40 billion in AI company Anthropic. The first tranche is $10 billion, injected based on its current $380B valuation, while the remaining $30 billion is tied to specific performance targets. Since 2023, Google has invested more than $3 billion in Anthropic and currently holds about 14% of the company’s shares. Earlier this month, Anthropic locked in 5 gigawatts of computing capacity through agreements with Google and Broadcom. Just a few days ago, Amazon also pledged to add $25 billion to its investment in Anthropic, meaning that in just a few weeks, up to $65 billion could flow into the company behind the Claude AI model. Anthropic’s current annual revenue has already exceeded $30 billion, and it is expected to go public in the coming months.
