Google announced a $40 billion investment in Anthropic, and within weeks it received a further $65 billion in funding.

AIMPACT news: On April 25 (UTC+8), Google announced that it will invest up to $40.0 billion in the AI company Anthropic. The first installment of $10.0 billion will be injected based on its current valuation of $38.0 billion, and the remaining $30.0 billion will be tied to specific performance targets. Since 2023, Google has invested more than $3.0 billion in Anthropic and currently holds about 14% of the company’s shares. Earlier this month, Anthropic locked in 5 gigawatts of computing capacity through agreements with Google and Broadcom. Just a few days ago, Amazon also pledged an additional $25.0 billion investment in Anthropic, meaning that within just a few weeks, up to $65.0 billion could flow into the company behind the Claude AI model. Anthropic’s annual revenue is currently over $30.0 billion, and it is expected to go public within the next few months.
