Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said there is still huge uncertainty about the pace of AGI/ASI development, and whether the future AI will be just ordinary technological progress or bring a superintelligent revolution between 2030 and 2040. He also expressed concern about a trend pushed by some major AI companies toward global AI leadership being controlled by a small number of institutions, saying that in a “normal technology world” this would trigger almost all political alert systems.
Vitalik reiterated his support for the d/acc concept, including decentralized defense technology paths such as open source, cryptography, secure hardware, and defensive biotechnology, and suggested that society should set AI risk trigger mechanisms in advance—for example, reopening discussions on slowing down or pausing AI after large-scale unemployment, a super pandemic, or risks from autonomous weapons emerge.
