AIMPACT message, April 25 (UTC+8): OpenAI CEO Sam Altman apologized to the Tumbler Ridge community in Canada for failing to notify police about the banned accounts related to Jesse Van Rootselaar. According to police, Jesse Van Rootselaar killed 8 people at a school this February, then died by suicide. OpenAI previously said the company banned Van Rootselaar’s account last year due to policy violations, but the issue did not meet the company’s internal standards for reporting to law enforcement. Sam Altman said he has spoken about the tragedy with the mayor of Tumbler Ridge and the premier of British Columbia, and described the community’s pain as “unimaginable.” (Source: BlockBeats)
