Abstract generation in progress
According to CoinDesk, the Ethereum Foundation has disbanded its protocol support team, as part of the nonprofit’s broader restructuring following recent layoffs of about 20% of its staff. The protocol support team coordinated multiple aspects of Ethereum’s development process, including core developer meetings, tracking network upgrades, supporting Ethereum improvement proposals, and projects that trained new protocol contributors. The team’s closure has been confirmed on social media, and Ethereum organizations have been invited to contact former team members who are experienced developers. Former team lead Mario Havel said that although his team has been disbanded, he will continue working at the Ethereum Foundation. Havel described the closure as a “bitter ending,” noting that the team supported Ethereum’s core development process through multiple forms and leadership changes. In the Foundation’s new organizational structure announced on June 23, it laid off 54 positions, accounting for about 20% of its total staff.

Mario said the bitter ending was over, but the people are still in the foundation—so you could say he left a spark behind.

From coordination meetings to removing all EIP support, and even the new hire training is gone too—this restructuring direction is hard to understand

Former team members are now highly sought after; every project team is rushing to recruit them.

20% layoffs + core team disbanded; it’s understandable to get through the bear market winter, but the protocol layer can’t be left in a vacuum.
