ME AI News. On July 9 (UTC+8), OpenAI announced that it would pause the artificial intelligence infrastructure build-out plan it had previously been promoting in the UK. The company originally planned to build data centers in the UK under the “Stargate UK” project framework from January to March this year. Soaring energy prices and uncertainty about the regulatory outlook are the main reasons for OpenAI’s decision to suspend the plan. OpenAI said it will resume the project in “the stage when long-term infrastructure investment becomes viable.” The decision reflects the energy cost challenges currently facing AI data center construction; power prices across Europe remain persistently high due to geopolitical factors, putting pressure on data center site selection and operations.
