ME AI News, Meta plans to start producing AI chips codenamed "Iris" from September: this is part of its internal Meta Training and Inference Accelerators (MTIA) project's fourth-generation chips, designed specifically for its own AI needs to enhance AI features on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. The report states that the chip is designed in collaboration with Broadcom and manufactured by TSMC, aiming to reduce reliance on external GPU suppliers such as Nvidia and AMD, and lower massive computing costs. After the chip's launch, Meta plans to deploy 7 gigawatts (GW) of computing infrastructure by 2026, doubling to 14 GW by 2027.
