Anthropic put a hidden tracker in Claude Code that flagged you by timezone. It sat there for 3 months and caught only because one guy took the app apart.


They:
> checked if your timezone was Shanghai or Urumqi
> scanned your proxy against a list of Chinese AI labs
> hid the result in the “Today’s date is” line, swapping the apostrophe for a lookalike character
Invisible to you but readable by Anthropic.
Claude Code touches your files, your shell, and network. It was fingerprinting your location and sending it home in punctuation.
This is same company that told the Pentagon no to surveillance.
