ME News: April 25 (UTC+8), US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed during a congressional hearing that the Trump administration’s “Gold Card” visa program has so far only had one applicant approved. The program, positioned as an alternative to the traditional EB-5 immigrant investor visa, requires foreigners to pay at least $1 million in exchange for legal residency, work eligibility, and a path to citizenship. Notably, Lutnick had previously publicly stated that the Gold Card program had sold $1.3 billion worth of spots and predicted it could generate $1 trillion in revenue to help reduce the U.S. fiscal deficit. However, during this hearing, he admitted that only one person has been formally approved so far, with several hundred other applicants still in the review process. (Source: PANews)
