BlockBeats news, July 6—Coinbase pushed an AI-generated “breaking news” to users, claiming that Norway beat Brazil 3:2 and that Haaland scored a brace. However, when the notification was sent, the match had not yet started, sparking users’ doubts. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said he had stepped in to investigate, and the company later confirmed that the issue had been fixed, updating its system to prevent similar errors in AI-generated content from happening again.

Coinbase’s Head of Consumer and Commercial Products, Max Branzburg, said that AI-driven 24/7 market news has potential, but still needs further optimization to improve accuracy. Notably, the final outcome of the match was indeed that Norway beat Brazil 2:1, with Haaland scoring two goals, but the score and the time the AI push was released were both wrong.

This incident comes as Coinbase continues to advance its prediction market business. This year, it has already provided event contracts to U.S. users via Kalshi covering sports, elections, and macroeconomics, and views prediction markets as an important part of its strategy to build a “one-stop trading platform.”
