Many people express themselves more complexly when socializing downward, yet more simply when socializing upward. Superficially, it seems like "the strong are complex, the weak are real," but the deeper reason is actually people's different judgments of risk and trust in different relationships: when a person is in a position of uncertainty or needs to control a situation, they tend to use complex expression to increase their sense of control; while in scenarios where they need to be evaluated or earn trust, they actively compress their expression to reduce the cost of understanding. But this is not an absolute rule; in high-trust relationships, people instead become both simple and real at the same time.
