AIMPACT news: On April 24 (UTC+8), Meta Platforms and Amazon.com reached a multi-billion-dollar, multi-year cooperation agreement. Meta will use tens of millions of AWS Graviton chip cores to support AI agents and other AI projects. The agreement term is 3 to 5 years, with most chips located in the United States. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Meta is one of AWS’s top five Graviton customers, using its 3-nanometer Graviton5 chips. AWS Vice President and co-founder of Annapurna Labs, the chip division, Nafea Bshara said Meta chose Graviton5 for its cost-performance advantage. The agreement is one of several partnerships Meta has reached this year with chip companies; the others include Nvidia, AMD, and Arm Holdings.

With the rise of AI agents, CPUs are once again becoming a hot commodity. Industry research shows that CPUs and GPUs can work together to complete a variety of AI tasks. Earlier this week, Amazon announced an additional $5 billion investment in Anthropic, which will use tens of millions of AWS Graviton CPU cores. This week, Meta released its first new AI model in over a year, Muse Spark, and plans to release more models soon.
