ME News Report, June 24 (UTC+8), the U.S. CFTC filed a lawsuit against Kentucky on Tuesday, attempting to prevent the state from regulating prediction market platforms as illegal sports betting and gambling platforms, further establishing federal jurisdiction over prediction markets. Previously, Kentucky had sued platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket last week, accusing them of operating unlicensed illegal sports betting and gambling businesses within the state. The CFTC stated in the complaint filed with the Eastern District of Kentucky federal court that Kentucky is attempting to shut down federally regulated designated contract markets, interfering with the federal regulatory system established by Congress for nationwide swap markets. The agency claims to have "exclusive jurisdiction" over relevant event contracts and prediction market products. Kentucky has become the ninth state in which the CFTC has sued over prediction market regulation disputes, indicating that conflicts between federal derivatives regulation and state-level gambling regulation continue to escalate.
