ME News Message: On June 23 (UTC+8), the Ethereum Foundation published a blog post saying that it has concluded a months-long restructuring and laid off 54 people, accounting for about 20% of its prior staff. This adjustment continues the strategic transition of “Lean Ethereum” and the 2026 development direction, repositioning the Ethereum Foundation as a more lightweight protocol governance and maintenance entity rather than a primary core builder. This change was further advanced on the back of the 2025 PR&D (Research & Development) restructuring (reducing staff from more than 110 to under 100), the earlier layoffs of about 19 people, and the subsequent departure of multiple senior researchers.
