Gold Financial reports that on June 17th, the G7 issued a statement saying that we support and are willing to contribute to the implementation of the US-Iran agreement. We reaffirm that the rights of unrestricted passage and fee exemption are the cornerstones of international trade. The defensive initiative led by France and the UK can play an important role in protecting commercial ships, reassuring shipping companies, and assisting in confirming that all mines have been cleared, thereby promoting the resumption of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. We strongly support the development of a robust and comprehensive diplomatic follow-up agreement based on the memorandum of understanding reached by U.S. President Trump, bringing peace and security to all countries in the Middle East. We emphasize that to achieve this goal, relevant negotiations must be conducted to address Iran’s threats in the region and beyond, and to ensure it can never acquire nuclear weapons. We agree that such negotiations will benefit from the active participation of relevant regional and international partners, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). We reaffirm that Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons. We are committed to accelerating the diversification of energy supply routes to reduce global dependence on the Strait of Hormuz and to increase our energy reserves. We welcome Canada’s significant additional capacity to the global market in the coming years. (Jin10)
