Golden Finance reports that on June 16, although the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of its founding next month, a Reuters/Pollster poll shows that nearly two-thirds of Americans believe the U.S. cannot continue for another 250 years. The survey ran for four days and ended on Monday. The survey shows that 38% of respondents (including 40% of Democrats and 26% of Republicans) believe that after 250 years, the U.S. will not continue to exist as a unified country. Two-thirds of respondents (including 85% of Democrats and 50% of Republicans) said they agree with the statement that “the American democratic system is facing a risk of failure,” a higher figure than the 57% recorded in a survey conducted in August last year. The proportion of Americans who say the U.S. is the world’s most outstanding country is declining. Thirty percent of respondents say the U.S. is the greatest country in the world, down from 38% in November 2017, during the first Trump administration’s polling. Most Americans (including three-quarters of Democrats and half of Republicans) believe that the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States have become overly politicized.
