Claude Code forces Cursor to urgently develop an in-house model
According to CoinWorld and OneMillion_AI reports, Business Insider revealed that Cursor is highly dependent on the Anthropic API. Anthropic secretly developed Claude Code and launched it in February 2026, with an annual revenue of $2.5 billion, surpassing Cursor's $2 billion, causing Cursor to lose its technological exclusivity. Some users switched to Claude Code, and developers also canceled their subscriptions. To prevent supply disruptions, Anthropic suddenly cut off supplies during negotiations with WindSurf for acquisition. On January 5th, Michael Truell held an emergency all-hands meeting to promote the development of their own models. Cursor leveraged open-source models from the Dark Side of the Moon to create the Composer series, with Composer 2.5, released in May, now over 85% developed in-house.
