A Minister of State for Defence saying, "Only God can end Nigeria's insecurity," is like a firefighter standing before a burning building and announcing that only God can put out the fire.
Nigerians pray, but they also budget billions for defence, intelligence gathering, military operations, and security agencies. The purpose of appointing ministers is not to remind citizens that God exists; it is to develop and implement solutions to national challenges.
If only God can solve the problem, then one must ask: what exactly is the role of the Defence Ministry? What are the security budgets for? What are the strategies, policies, and operations meant to achieve?
Faith should complement leadership, not replace it. Citizens expect those entrusted with national security to project competence, confidence, and a clear plan of action not the impression that the situation has been surrendered to divine intervention.
Statements like this do little to reassure Nigerians. Instead, they risk sounding like an admission that those responsible for solving the problem have run out of answers.
We are finished completely...
