Abstract generation in progress
Zimbabwe rolled out its first dedicated cryptocurrency rules, requiring crypto asset firms to register with the central bank's Financial Intelligence Unit or face potential prosecution. Initial registration costs $500, and annual renewal costs $400. The rules appear to leave Zimbabwe's 2018 bank prohibition in place while creating a registration channel for the informal crypto market. Chainalysis data shows Sub-Saharan Africa received more than $205 billion in on-chain value between July 2024 and June 2025.
