BlockBeats News, June 14 — Critini Research analyst Jukan stated that HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) is bringing structural changes to the long-term trend of the DRAM market. From around 1957 to 2020, the cost per Gb of DRAM roughly decreased by an order of magnitude every five years, but the strong demand for HBM driven by AI breakthroughs has completely broken this pattern. Manufacturers are shifting a large portion of capacity to more complex processes and HBM that occupy more silicon area, leading to tight supply of regular DRAM and a noticeable price reversal. Data shows that DRAM prices have been steadily declining on a logarithmic scale over the long term, but after 2023-2024, they are breaking upward, reflecting the formation of an AI-driven memory supercycle.
