Opinion: Israel cannot prevent the signing of the US-Iran agreement but will still attempt to create friction

BlockBeats News, June 14 — Assistant Researcher Li Zixin from the China Institute of International Studies stated that, regarding the signing of the U.S.-Iran Memorandum of Understanding, Israel is unable to prevent it. Israel is not a direct party to the U.S.-Iran MOU and has no veto rights. Under the current circumstances where the White House faces significant domestic political pressure, it is even more difficult to influence Trump’s personal will. Therefore, Israel cannot stop the signing between the U.S. and Iran, but Israel has never needed formal vetoes to cause disruptions; instead, it habitually creates facts on the ground to undermine the conditions for a ceasefire. How much influence Israel can exert on the situation depends partly on the influence of the United States and partly on Iran’s response. Considering that both the U.S. and Iran have strong incentives to achieve a ceasefire, Israel is probably unable to completely sabotage the current situation, but the IDF can still continuously create friction at a low-intensity level, objectively increasing the difficulty for the U.S. and Iran to reach a final ceasefire agreement.
