Will “Singapore” eventually turn into another “Thailand”?
Maybe this is part of the Li family’s plan.
Thailand is a very interesting country—one established by the Chinese. Even the kings were originally from China. In the end, the Chinese fully blended into the local culture. Perhaps a different way to put it is that the Chinese, adapting to local conditions, took the initiative to shape an entirely new culture—giving up even Chinese surnames altogether. That’s a perfectly “treasonous” sort of move. This is what they often call “putting down roots and taking hold.” In the end, they remain close to and distant from China at the same time, forming a bond that’s severed yet still unbroken—like threads tied together that won’t fully come apart.
As for this matter—causing such a huge stir among people in China—it actually has nothing to do with Chinese people. In the future, when you go to Singapore, just treat it as if you’re going to another “Thailand.” That’s not bad at all.
