According to Politico, 24-hour insider details about the U.S. government’s export controls on Anthropic’s most advanced AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, have been disclosed. The report says that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raised concerns with the White House two days after the release of Fable 5, saying the model’s safety guardrails could be bypassed. Several senior officials in the White House then issued Anthropic CEO a 90-minute ultimatum, demanding that it proactively remove the model, but this was refused. Ultimately, the Trump government used national security privileges to impose export controls, forcing Anthropic to completely shut down the relevant models worldwide. Anthropic later issued a statement protesting, saying the administrative intervention lacked transparency and did not follow principles based on technical facts. Notably, Amazon is also one of Anthropic’s largest investors.
