After living in the city for a long time, I really can’t stand the kind of environment you find in the countryside.

People in rural areas who live together year after year actually have a lot of deep resentment. Some people will never, in their entire lives, go into a certain shop, and they won’t have dealings with certain people—how deep their hatred is is beyond measure, and how big their opinions are is beyond measure.
If you offend Zhang the butcher, buying meat really will be very difficult, because in the village there’s only one place where you can buy meat.
Why do villagers like to go all out with big, extravagant events? In fact, it’s just to show off and to make a display of how strong and extensive their connections are—yet in reality, it’s useless.
Because the market economy isn’t developed, they spend their days thinking about useless things.
