Gate Launches Hong Kong Stock Trading: USDT-Based Access to 1,000+ HK-Listed Equities Without a Traditional Brokerage

Gate has officially launched Hong Kong stock trading services on June 11, 2026, marking a significant expansion of its global equity investment footprint. Users can now trade more than 1,000 Hong Kong-listed stocks directly through the Gate App using USDT, without the need to open a traditional brokerage account or convert funds into Hong Kong dollars, substantially lowering the barrier to cross-border capital market participation.

The initial rollout covers leading companies from both the Main Board and GEM of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, representing firms with strong market capitalization and liquidity profiles. The tradable roster includes Tencent Holdings, HSBC Holdings, CATL, China Mobile, Xiaomi Corporation, Meituan, BYD Company, Ping An Insurance, AIA Group, and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, among others. Gate has indicated it will continue expanding the asset list based on market demand and compliance requirements, positioning Hong Kong stocks as a dynamic and growing segment within its equity product suite.

The integration architecture is strategically designed. Hong Kong stock trading shares the same stock account system as U.S. stocks, enabling unified fund management, position management, and trading experience across both markets. Users transfer USDT from their Spot Account or Unified Account into the Stock Account and can begin trading immediately. While U.S. stocks are priced in USD, Hong Kong stocks are priced in HKD, with portfolio value, profit and loss, and price displays all rendered in HKD. Trading is available only during regular Hong Kong market hours, with no pre-market or after-hours sessions, consistent with the exchange's operating schedule.

This launch extends Gate's existing equity infrastructure, which already supports trading of over 10,000 U.S.-listed mainstream stocks and ETFs using USDT, covering NYSE, Nasdaq, NYSE Arca, NYSE American, and BATS, with fractional trading available from as low as 0.01 shares. The VIP tier system applies across both U.S. and Hong Kong stock trading, with users able to upgrade to VIP status with just $2,000 in holdings and access exclusive trading fees as low as 0.023%, along with 1-on-1 account manager services.

The Hong Kong stock addition completes a multi-layered TradFi product structure that Gate has been building throughout 2026. The platform now covers Pre-IPOs, IPO Access, and secondary market stock trading, connecting the full lifecycle from pre-listing opportunities and IPO subscription through to post-listing secondary market trading. Gate's Pre-IPO program notably included SpaceX (SPCX), offering USDT-based subscription access ahead of the June 12 Nasdaq debut, demonstrating the platform's capacity to bridge crypto-native capital with traditional equity market events at every stage.

The strategic significance of this launch extends beyond product diversification. Hong Kong has emerged as a leading global IPO market, with the Hong Kong Exchange ranked first globally by IPO funds raised in 2025, ahead of both the NYSE and Nasdaq according to KPMG. The momentum has continued into 2026, with the Connect program expanding and strong listing activity from Chinese technology and industrial companies. By providing USDT-based access to this market, Gate is positioning itself as a conduit between crypto-native liquidity pools and the rapidly expanding Hong Kong equity ecosystem, particularly relevant for global investors seeking exposure to Chinese and Asian corporate growth without the friction of traditional cross-border brokerage infrastructure.

The unified USDT settlement model is a key innovation. It eliminates the need for multi-currency conversion, reduces settlement complexity, and allows crypto holders to deploy their existing USDT balances directly into equity markets. This model has proven effective in the U.S. stock product and now extends to Hong Kong, creating a two-market, single-settlement-layer architecture that could serve as a template for further geographic expansion as Gate continues building its global asset network.

Users can access Hong Kong stock trading by updating the Gate App to version 8.23.5 or later, navigating to Tradfi, then Stocks, then Hong Kong Stocks, and transferring USDT to their Stock Account. Gate notes that it currently does not provide products or services to users located in Hong Kong, reflecting compliance considerations in its jurisdictional approach.
