The U.S. Northern District of Illinois federal prosecutors announced on June 10 that a new defendant has been charged in the previous crypto-related home invasion robbery case in Winnetka, a suburb north of Chicago. The prosecution stated that the incident occurred on March 8, 2026, and the suspect allegedly impersonated a food delivery person to lure residents to open the door, then stormed into the residence with a gun and took control of the victim, demanding access to the safe, computers, and online accounts holding cryptocurrencies. Several defendants had previously been charged in connection with the case, with the accused facing charges of conspiracy to kidnap and conspiracy to rob, with the conspiracy to kidnap carrying a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Life imprisonment? That's a pretty harsh sentence, but there's really no defending kidnapping.

Is this how the North Suburbs of Chicago are now? I thought the security in the wealthy neighborhoods would be better.

Security in crypto assets must be taken seriously; physical security is also a part of it.

So, cold wallets + multi-signature are the right way; online accounts are just sitting ducks.

Pretending to be a delivery person is too shady; from now on, I have to check the peephole before opening the door.

March 2026? Did time travel happen? Can the editor pay a little more attention?
