At 12 local time, the United Nations Security Council held a meeting on the ongoing work of the International Criminal Tribunal’s residual mechanism. The Chinese representative said that since the Security Council adopted a resolution in 2010 to establish the International Criminal Tribunal’s residual mechanism, the mechanism, as an efficient small-scale temporary institution, has made important contributions to international criminal justice. The Chinese side noted that the mechanism has now completed all core judicial cases; its judicial and administrative functions have been significantly reduced; and the conditions for further transferring and scaling down its functions, and even ultimately winding up the mechanism, are in place. The Chinese side called on all parties in the Security Council to reach a consensus on a resolution as soon as possible to ensure that the mechanism’s political and legal legacy can be carried forward.
