Crypto World News reports that, according to livecoins, Brazil’s House of Representatives’ Finance and Taxation Committee (CFT) has approved the report related to Bill PL 5819/2025. The bill aims to strengthen penalties for internet scams and to authorize judicial authorities to freeze the funds (balances) of police investigation subjects in cryptocurrency exchanges and banks. The proposed bill would raise the prison sentence for electronic scams carried out via social networks or by phone to 6 to 10 years. If an organized crime gang is involved, the sentence could be increased by an additional one-third. The next step for the proposal is to be submitted to the House of Representatives’ Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) for consideration, and it has not yet become an official law.

Brazil's move is quite aggressive, directly freezing exchange funds, making it impossible for scammers to escape.

6 to 10 years in prison, plus one-third more, it seems South America is also cracking down hard on crypto crimes.
