Thank you, South Korea team! — My first World Cup betting journey

The World Cup is here! In previous tournaments, this little gambling enthusiast has just watched for fun, and I’ve never found a suitable platform to bet on matches domestically. Since Gate integrated with Polymarket this year, it gave me an opportunity. No need to search for platforms everywhere or worry about whether they are compliant or safe—just a few simple steps on Gate and I can easily place bets. I’ve already bet on events on Polymarket before, but betting on football is my first time. Watching the game while betting made me feel like I was rooting for the home team. Every minute, my nerves were on edge, truly experiencing the joy and essence of watching the World Cup.

Today, around 9:50 a.m., I inexplicably had a strong premonition that South Korea would “pull off an upset” against the Czech Republic. Maybe it’s a man’s eighth sense (like a Saint Seiya plot 😀). So I opened the Gate app before kickoff, found the World Cup special button on the homepage, entered Polymarket. Gate had thoughtfully added the World Cup as a category in event types. I clicked in, selected the South Korea vs. Czech Republic match, chose to bet on South Korea, and Gate even gave me a prediction market experience coupon, which I decisively used 😀. After placing my bet, I went about my business. About an hour later, I turned on the TV and saw the game had already entered the second half, and the score was still 0-0. My heart skipped a beat—could both teams really be going for a goalless draw? I kept my eyes glued to the TV, silently cheering for South Korea! Then, even more intense things happened. Czech a throw-in like a grenade into the penalty area, Czech captain Kroízi headed the ball into the net—Czech Republic scored first! My mood plummeted. I thought, “No way they’ll just play for a draw,” and I trusted my gut to place the bet.

Next, South Korea’s star Son Heung-min and another player wasted a chance in succession, making me slap my thigh in frustration. But just five minutes later, South Korea’s forward Hwang In-beom broke through on a counterattack into the penalty area, skillfully cut back with his right foot facing the defender, and calmly shot into the far corner past the goalkeeper—he equalized! I jumped up from the sofa, wildly celebrating with fists. But after the excitement, I calmed down—it's only 1-1, a draw isn’t enough. So I kept cheering for South Korea. As Czech’s stamina waned, South Korea started to dominate in the opponent’s half, attacking relentlessly, but they just couldn’t score the winning goal. My mood fluctuated with excitement and disappointment. Finally, in the 80th minute, Wu Xian-kui, who had replaced Son Heung-min, scored calmly against the goalkeeper on a counterattack—2-1, South Korea took the lead! I was so ecstatic I almost shouted out loud. Then, Czech threw everything forward, attacking wildly, but South Korea’s goalkeeper made two incredible saves in a row, as if blessed. As time ticked away, in the 96th minute, the referee blew the final whistle—South Korea stunned everyone with a 2-1 comeback victory over Czech!

I quickly opened the Gate app, chose to sell the event, and this bet earned a total profit of 75 units—an easy win! Winning money isn’t the most important thing; during this process, I truly experienced the fun of football and the charm of the World Cup—things money can’t buy. Of course, looking back at this bet, I realize I also made some irrational decisions based solely on intuition, but luckily, the outcome was good. Here, Little God of Wealth reminds everyone that World Cup match results are unpredictable. Don’t get addicted to betting—after all, “football is round.” The so-called “small bets for fun” should be kept in moderation. Everyone should control their risks, bet on matches they’re confident in, and develop their own betting strategies based on their funds. I believe true fans have many secret tips—Little God of Wealth won’t show off here. Wishing everyone prosperity every day!
