CFTC Chair: Incorporating Crypto Perpetual Contracts into Domestic Regulation to Reverse Business Outsourcing
June 12 News, the Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Mike Selig, stated publicly that under his leadership, the CFTC is integrating cryptocurrency perpetual contracts into a "gold standard" regulatory framework to promote compliant implementation of these products within the United States.
Selig pointed out that the regulatory environment during the previous Biden administration forced a large portion of crypto perpetual contract businesses to flow overseas to regions without investor protection, which indirectly contributed to major risk events like the FTX collapse.
He also emphasized that popular financial products like perpetual contracts should be open to U.S. investors under American law and regulatory frameworks.
In summary, this statement marks an important shift in the attitude of U.S. regulators toward the crypto derivatives market.
