Humans, once they stop internal conflict, stop hesitating, and act decisively, become terrifying.
History has proven this countless times.
So God designed a mechanism specifically to weaken you and make you hesitant.
This mechanism has been discovered by different schools of thought; some call it the id, superego, some call it attachment, and others call it the Alaya consciousness.
Whatever it's called, we can simply understand it as a little person.
This little person feeds on these negative emotions, and your relationship with it is somewhat like a yin-yang dynamic.
The more anxious, regretful, tense, or depressed you are, the more this little person grows, and your own willpower becomes weaker.
Eventually, you don’t dare to do anything you want, and it turns into learned helplessness.
Over time, it develops into depression.
At that stage of depression, you almost find it very hard to defeat that little person; almost only the path of mutual destruction remains.
It’s a bit like our immune system—normal times it protects us, but if it becomes too strong, it can backfire.
To avoid reaching that point, you can only weaken it and strengthen yourself.
Fortunately, different schools have different names for it, but their methods of weakening it are highly consistent:
that is, realizing its existence, observing it without emotion—just that is enough.
It’s that simple.
Because as long as you observe it without emotion, it’s like cutting off its food supply; it has nothing to eat, and naturally, its limbs will weaken.
If you still feel that’s not enough, then make yourself stronger.
The way to become stronger is also very simple: do what you want to do, go ahead and accomplish it.
Win more, and you’ll become stronger.
Being afraid of failure is essentially feeding this little person.
What you need to do is first recognize and admit your cowardice.
Once you do that, you’ll naturally become more at ease.
Whether you can be ashamed and then become brave depends on your determination.
