Many feelings of inferiority are not because you think you're not good enough, but because you believe you should be better. Essentially, inferiority often stems from the gap between your ideal self and your real self. You wouldn't feel inferior for not knowing how to fly a plane because you've never thought you should; but you would feel inferior for not being successful enough, smart enough, or outstanding enough because you've already assumed you should be that kind of person. When reality keeps shattering these expectations, inferiority arises. Therefore, the focus of growth is often not to prove how excellent you are, but to let go of the need to be excellent.
