Anthropic announces that the five-hour usage limit for Claude Cowork has been doubled for one month
Anthropic announces that the five-hour rolling quota window for Claude Cowork has been doubled, valid from June 5, 2026, to July 5, 2026, applicable to Pro, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.
(Background: OpenAI launches "Blocking Mode": disabling 7 features including web browsing and downloads to defend against prompt injection attacks)
(Additional context: Bitcoin drops 17% over seven days, Ethereum crashes 22%, marking the "worst week since FTX" with the total cryptocurrency market cap evaporating $400 billion)
Earlier yesterday, Anthropic announced that the five-hour rolling quota window for its desktop AI assistant tool Claude Cowork (the limit on how many times you can use it every five hours) has been doubled, effective immediately until July 5, and fully open to Pro, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Since Claude Cowork does not have a "weekly limit" like Claude Code, doubling the five-hour quota allows for more tasks to be accomplished.
Cowork means "a colleague sitting at your desk"
Claude Cowork runs inside the Claude desktop app, allowing users to directly see and control the entire desktop environment—click buttons, open applications, fill out Excel spreadsheets, browse web pages, operate local files—all seamlessly.
In the past, you needed to manually open five windows, copy and paste three times, and verify data formats twice. Cowork can handle the entire process for you, even when you're not present. As for Claude Code, it is positioned as an autonomous software engineer, specializing in deep development, testing, and architecture refactoring within programming projects.
Anthropic’s positioning is clear: this is not an experimental tool for developers to test, but a formal product aimed at everyday office scenarios.
Challenging the habits of white-collar workers
Anthropic chose to announce the doubling on Cowork rather than on the Claude.ai chat function itself. This choice points to competitors like Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini for Workspace enterprise editions. All three are doing the same thing: pushing AI from chat boxes into daily office workflows, enabling it to directly operate users’ files and applications. The difference is that Microsoft and Google have existing enterprise ecosystems as channels, while Anthropic must rely on model capabilities and flexible usage to attract users to switch voluntarily.
Doubling the quota sends a clear signal: Anthropic believes that once the usage barrier for Cowork is lowered, users will naturally increase their frequency of use and develop habits within their work routines. Once habits are formed, switching costs will emerge.
