Vice President of HKU Wang Yang: Predicting the future is no longer possible; companies can only rely on "resilience" to cope with the upheaval of the AI era
ME News message: On April 19 (UTC+8), Professor Edward Y. W. Yung, Vice President of The University of Hong Kong, was invited to attend the “Connected World, Boundless Future” Frontier Technology Forum jointly hosted by the Institute of Cutting-Edge Technology and ME Group, and delivered an opening speech at the forum.
Professor Yung pointed out that the era of artificial intelligence is bringing unprecedented opportunities and challenges. He predicted that over the next five years, humanity’s core values will shift from “economic value” to “emotional value” and “health value.” In response to how fast today’s technology is changing, he drew on the core viewpoint from the book Whiplash to emphasize that, in an era where it is impossible to accurately predict the future, the key to a company’s survival and prosperity is not about controlling forecasts, but about maintaining a strong level of “flexibility” and “resilience.”
In his speech, Professor Yung frankly stated that although the Hong Kong government has made substantial investments in innovation and technology in recent years, there is still room for improvement in the underlying logic of building an innovation ecosystem. He encouraged the entrepreneurs and alumni in attendance that they should not only focus on the integration of Web3 and AI, but also stay clear-headed, strengthen their adaptability amid rapid changes, and strive to become a pioneering force that leads innovation and technology trends in China and even globally.
