Many people think love is an emotion, but from a neuroscience perspective, love is more like a fundamental operating environment. It provides a sense of security, allowing the brain to switch from a defensive mode to a creative mode; it gives a sense of meaning, making people willing to dedicate themselves to a goal greater than themselves; it offers a sense of the future, making people believe that their efforts today can lead to tomorrow. When a person feels loved and also has the ability to love, they become more stable, more focused, and more resilient. Love is not an escape from reality, but a force that, after seeing the reality clearly, still persists in acting to make this world better.
