A Rare Congressional Check

June 3 – A rare cross-party move in Washington.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a War Powers Resolution (215 – 208), demanding President Trump halt military action against Iran without explicit congressional authorization.

🔹 4 Republicans joined all Democrats in favor – the first such vote since hostilities began in February.

🔹 Despite the symbolic win, the resolution is a non-binding concurrent resolution. It now heads to the Republican-controlled Senate, where its future remains uncertain.

🔹 President Trump called the vote “pointless,” while Speaker Mike Johnson tried to block it.

Meanwhile, tensions persist: Trump hinted at a possible weekend deal with Iran, and a drone attack hit Kuwait on the same day.

Why it matters: This is the first time the House has pushed back on executive war powers over Iran – even if symbolic, the political signal is clear.

Stay informed on geopolitics and markets.
